Few things have ever made me laugh so hard, ponder so deeply, or worry over an older Irish man’s concept of female anatomy as much as this.

It finally happened. I’m finally one of those people that talks about podcasts in real life. But this one deserves it. Few things have ever made me laugh so hard, ponder so deeply, or worry over an older Irish man’s concept of female anatomy as much as this podcast.

“So what is it about?” You may ask. “Is it one of those podcasts about serial killers? Or mental illness? Or mentally ill serial killers?” And the answer to that is “kinda, but in a more figurative way.”

The podcast “My Dad Wrote a Porno” features three friends (Jamie Morton, the one with the dad, as well as Alice Levine and James Cooper, who probably also have dads) taking a deep dive into Jamie’s father’s self-published erotica. Under the poetic and beautifully flowing pseudonym of Rocky Flintstone, he’s written over 5 full books in the “Belinda Blinked” series. I know what you’re thinking — the only thing sexier than a name like Belinda is chronic dry eye. As a 20-something named Miriam who regularly applies synthetic tears, it feels good to finally be recognized. However, the tears that occur while listening to “My Dad Wrote a Porno” are anything but synthetic.

Belinda Blumenthal works in the irresistibly sexy world of pots and pans, and she’s damn good at it. She doesn’t so much sleep her way to the top as she does sloppily fuck her way from side to side, up and down, and all back around. You may think that a podcast of this nature would inherently be somewhat sex negative, but it’s truly the opposite.

While Flintstone’s (no pun intended) grip on the female anatomy is tenuous at the best of times, he writes a female protagonist who doesn’t label her sexuality, is passionate about and good at her career, and loves freely and openly. The three friends who offer their commentary on the proceedings are not discouraging of her behavior, or the fact that Jamie’s dad has a somewhat unexpected hobby. There’s certainly a requisite amount of awkwardness to be expected when coming to the upsetting realization that your dad knows what rimming is (as Jamie is forced to confront), but Rocky, Belinda, and the three friends are never shamed for their sexualities.

Chances are that you will not be aroused by this podcast. That is, unless cervix grabbing and botched penis enlargements resulting in flaking skin and baby blue semen (again, no pun intended with “baby” blue) really do it for you. Which, hey, I’m not here to kink shame. But if you’re looking for something fun to listen to on your commute (cummute), or maybe get a little more comfortable with just how funny sex can be, be sure to check out “My Dad Wrote a Porno” wherever you listen to podcasts.
